I started this blog for fun. I love writing, always have, and I feel after thirty years floating around figuring myself out, it was about time to make an outlet for some decent writing.
I don’t hope for much. Just to write and have fun. For most of my life, ever since I starting writing short stories at seven years old, I’ve been focused on novels. One in particular that I consider ‘my life’s work.’ However, I don’t want that to be my identity. I want to be a writer. So, I’ve finally hit that point where I want to do nothing more than write. Any genre, any story, any idea, any time…
This blog is for myself. For my family. My wife. And for anyone really. I don’t hope to ‘take off.’ I just want to write with some goal in mind. The blog, I hope, will keep me on track, and hey, if someone, anyone, out there enjoys anything I post, I’d consider that a flying success. Science fiction/fantasy are my specialties, but I’m hoping to branch out a bit so that I can get better. Plain, simple, and fun…
So, down to business:
Monday Coffee – Short stories. Random. Maybe something I’ve messed with in the past, maybe from college. Or just inspiration I received from a neat image. Will probably link to the image. Will keep them down to two pages. Just simply what comes to mind and makes a good story.
It’s Poetry My Dude – Posts on Wednesdays. Pure poetry. It’s been a while since I’ve really focused on poetry so this I think will be the most challenging, but that’s part of the fun.
Fri-losophy – A more personal post. Maybe my thoughts that day. Or a commentary on writing as a whole. Thoughts put down to laptop. Writing is personal on its own, and I’m choosing to dive deeper into that aspect of it because I want to be able to have an outlet for genuine expression. At least, that’s what I hope. Expression is, I feel, an important piece to writing.
Promptly – This one will be interesting. Twice a month, the 15th and the last day of the month, a certain beautiful someone will be handing me a few choices of prompts. The hope is to choose one and create a longer piece ranging from 3 to 5 pages. Maybe something completely off the wall, or a writing prompt picked from somewhere else that might make a fun story. Those are due dates so I keep on schedule. I’ll post the story, tell the next prompt, and hope for the best.
I’m doing this because I want to stop limiting myself. Writing is fun for me because I always seem to have inspiration from something and for something. I want those ideas out and about. And I just want to enjoy doing it.
Writing is writing. And a writer is a writer.
